Add Item Button Pattern

Placing the add item button at the top left of a table or list is a flexible and visible location - regardless of the number of records in the table.

Keeps "add item" functions in a consistent location

What is the Solution?

Placing the "add item" button below the list can have negative effects - in a long list the button may not be in view of the user. For consistency, it is helpful for the user to find the button in the same spatial location every time. Though sometimes it is seen placed in the top right of a list or table, standardizing on the top left as a default allows the top right to be used for other secondary component functions.
